Yarrr! BBS sixth graders stage "Pirates of the Curry Bean"

An awesome show, that nearly didn’t happen

This year saw the revival of what has become a BBS primary school tradition: the School Musical. Our 6th grade students worked tirelessly with their music teacher Daniel Keeling for several months, learning scripts, preparing props, practicing singing and dancing, and rehearsing each scene to perfection.

Then, some four weeks before the performance, the theatre had to cancel the agreed slot because of ongoing renovation work, so the production was suddenly stuck with no stage.

But, like so often in life at BBS, the music teacher and some parents pooled their powers, did a concerted search among the theatres nearby and found an ideal space at ACUD studio theatre in Veteranenstrasse. So, in March it was SHOWTIME.

“The Pirates of the Curry Bean” is a proper musical, written for school productions: A pirate story which takes the characters from London’s docks on a treasure hunt to Lumbago, in the sea of Sciatica.

Over two days, the students put on four full length shows so that all other classes as well as 6 grade parents had a chance to see it. The shows were great fun front and back stage, for the audience, and a true inspiration to the younger students. Well done to all performers, the whole production team and parents who helped along the way.
